Self Introduction

militant owl

I've been lurking on the LJ site for a few weeks now, thanks to an introduction from my wise, warm and witty friend of lo these many years, known here as szandara.  I am a historian by trade, with a passion for food, travel, and culture and an addiction to reading.  I have an adorable husband and two varyingly adorable and infuriating children, currently aged 2.5 (girl) and 5 (boy).  I'm not sure yet what I'll be using this space for or how often I'll be writing, but as a self-introduction I'll do a recent meme that I enjoyed:

A food meme from e_juliana and hackerguitar: the top 50 things everyone should try a bite of in his or her lifetime

bold the ones you've eaten, italicize the ones you didn't like.

You just haven't been to the right diner. A diner breakfast can be wonderful.

welcome aboard!

Umm, yeah, I'll take your word for that one. I'm a gourmet queen by night, but my stomach doesn't wake up till midday, anything more elaborate for breakfast than Cheerios is dangerous to my well-being.

One of the great things about diners is that you can get breakfast any time of day.

Welcome to the sublime and ridiculous place that we call LJ! Lurking is good at the beginning; I did the same thing when I joined. Feel free to ask questions.

What does "mochi tsuki" mean?

Can I make you an icon as an early birthday gift? You can see examples of my work on my userpics page and my LiveJournal Icon Gallery.

An icon would be great - I'm going with the Asian food theme for now...

Can you be more specific? There are probably hundreds of thousands of images of Asian food out there...

Is "mochi tsuki" a food phrase?

Yup, see my next journal entry, it explains my handle and icon...
